INTERCOM strongly condemns the recent brutal invasion by Russia’s army of Ukraine, an independent and sovereign European country, which is a violation of its territorial integrity and breach of established international law. In such circumstances there are “risks faced by museum professionals as well as the threats to cultural heritage” which ICOM stressed in its Statement.

We mourn human casualties and stand firmly with the citizens of Ukraine who are faced with extraordinary suffering and hardship. In unison with many voices from a democratic world, INTERCOM therefore calls for an immediate end to this unacceptable act of aggression and for the restoration of peace in Europe.
